My name is Rusty Klophaus, and I build interesting things with technology.

Out of college, I worked for an international pharmaceutical company for nine months, and then left in 2003 to start a software consulting company with two college friends.

By early 2006, we had grown our consulting company to 20 people and successfully sold to our largest client, an internet marketing company that is turning heads in the industry. I stayed on for another two years in the Reston, VA office, building technology and managing a number of high-profile projects, including:

  • A 17-terabyte data warehouse and business intelligence engine
  • The technology side of a strategic partnership with Microsoft
  • Our core product, a powerful, performance based marketing engine

In early 2008, I left to start a new company with the goal of changing the way web applications notify  their users. The company was a victim of the economy, but some of the technology lives on as Nitrogen, a cutting-edge web framework for Erlang.

On the side, I play acoustic guitar (and the occasional open mic at Ireland’s Four Courts in Arlington, VA), and hone my cooking talents.

This site is an attempt to record and organize some of the things I’ve learned along the way.
